A tour of the building

Since the cabin has been built, but not fitted out yet, this is a good time to have a look at it as the “before” … it may take a while until it is fully operational.

Two decisions had to be made before the concrete base was laid

  1. Where were the services (power, water, comms, drains) going to enter/leave the building,?
  2. Just how big does the base need to be to support the structure?

Because the building was going to be at the far end of the garden, I decided that it made sense to have the services enter the building on one side.  The toilet will be placed at the far end of the building, so that is a good place to put the drains! but also makes sense that the water supply should be located nearby.

Having spoken to the building control officer, it was determined that we had to leave a gap between the cabin and the boundaries – this meant that the maximum width of the building was determined, and from that the dimensions of the concrete slab.  Even so, the base took 5.5 cubic metres of concrete.

So what is it like inside?

The entrance to the building is via the double doors, and this leads into the “entrance lobby”.  This room will be pressed into service as somewhere to hide the drummer! When not in recording studio mode, it will be a lounge/tea room area – the kettle will be in here.

At the back of the room, there is a door leading to a similar-sized room which wil be partitioned off so that there is extra storage separate from the toilet.

The entrance lobby connects to the main room via double doors.
