A new year, a new challenge – photograph 12 different subjects.
This month it is smooth reflections of night lights on water. It is January, and still dark nights provide an opportunity to see the lights of the city reflected on the river.
It is also the opportunity to try out the smooth reflections plugin on my camera to see what the night performance is like. The plugin stacks multiple exposures to smooth out differences caused by water movement. For these shots, each exposure is many seconds, and there are ten or more exposures stacked to make the final image. I noticed also that each exposure had two parts – the first part was with the shutter open to capture the image, the second was with the shutter closed to make a dark slide. The noise reduction worked well, but it meant that it took twice as long as I expected for each shot.
